Protecting Immigrants and Their Families

Many people who move to the United States hope to find a better life. They want to escape persecution or they are looking for job opportunities. Some people move here to be with their family. Whatever your reason, once you have moved here, it is important to work with an attorney to protect your rights.

At my firm - the Law Office of Jamie N. Harris - We work with clients throughout San Jose, California, in immigration matters, including:

  • Asylum: We help clients who fear persecution from their home country because of their political opinion, religion or gender. In order to be granted asylum, an individual must: file within one year of entry to the U.S. 2) establish past persecution or a well founded fear of future persecution in their home country on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. We can help you to apply for asylum into the United States.
  • Motions to Reopen: If you do not show up for a mandatory court hearing, the judge can issue a removal order against you. This means your case is then closed. We work with clients to reopen their case so they are not deported.
  • Family immigration law: If you are trying to bring loved ones to California, we can help you obtain a visa for your spouse or other family members.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you are a green card holder and want to become a United States citizen, we can help. We also work with clients who were born outside of the U.S. but have one parent who is a U.S. citizen. We know what forms and paperwork are necessary, and we can guide you through the process.
  • Federal appeals cases: If you have an application that is pending with the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Service), we can help move your application forward. We have experience moving petitions to the jurisdiction of the federal district court.
  • Post-conviction relief: We help clients who want to have their criminal records erased. This includes handling expungements, vacating convictions or getting the court to drop felony charges.
  • Board of Immigration appeals cases: We can help you file an appeal with the Board of Immigration Appeals within 30 days of the Immigration Judge's denial of your case.
  • 9th Circuit Court of Appeals cases: If your case is denied by the Board of Immigration Appeals, we can help you file a Petition for Review with the 9th Circuit.
  • Employment-based visas: We work with clients who are here on an employment-based work visas.

When you contact us, we will be prepared to give you the legal counsel you need. We have handled a variety of cases, so we are prepared to help our clients with whatever legal problems they have. No case is too big or too small. Contact us online or contact:
